Redefining Quality: The Lapicart Journey in Used MacBooks

Meet Sarransh, a spirited entrepreneur with over a decade of experience in starting and scaling businesses. His journey, filled with both triumphs and setbacks, exemplifies the resilience required in the volatile world of startups. Sarransh, a former IIM-Kozhikode student, began his entrepreneurial voyage at the young age of 23, long before the term “startup” became a buzzword. His first venture evolved into one of the largest co-living chains in Kolkata, named Orastays. Despite its initial success and venture funding, the onslaught of COVID-19 forced the business to close its doors, a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of business.

Devastated but not defeated, Sarransh took a brief hiatus, working odd jobs to make ends meet. The turning point came when his last job abruptly ended as the company shut down. During this challenging time, Sarransh leaned on the advice of mentors from the venture capitalist community, sparking the idea for his next venture: Lapicart.

The inspiration for Lapicart emerged from a personal pain point—finding quality, affordable laptops. Remembering his struggles to find reliable used laptops for his previous startups, Sarransh recognized a gap in the market for premium used MacBooks. This niche focus led him to extensive market research and discussions with suppliers across India’s major cities.

Launched on January 22, 2024, a day marked by national celebration, Lapicart quickly distinguished itself in the market. Unlike many competitors, Lapicart specializes exclusively in top-grade MacBooks, avoiding the refurbished and repaired market entirely. They pride themselves on selling only “Superb” grade MacBooks, ensuring each device meets stringent quality standards concerning battery health and aesthetics.

Redefining Quality: The Lapicart Journey in Used MacBooks

Lapicart’s co-founder, Vishal Dorge, brings a dynamic mix of technical expertise and entrepreneurial spirit to the table. A self-made man who funded his engineering degree through his digital ventures, Vishal’s tech-savviness and commitment have been instrumental in building the technical backbone of Lapicart, allowing the startup to thrive from day one.

Despite being a bootstrap operation, Lapicart has achieved significant milestones. The startup has been incubated by NASSCOM and supported by AWS and Zoho, enhancing its technological capabilities and market understanding. With a focus on B2C sales, Sarransh envisions expanding through a franchise model, aiming for a revenue target of 20 crore INR by FY 25-26, and ultimately reaching 100 crore INR within three years.

Customer satisfaction lies at the core of Lapicart’s operations. The team goes to great lengths to understand and meet customer needs, fostering a loyal customer base appreciative of the quality and service they receive. This customer-centric approach minimizes dissatisfaction and returns, contributing to the company’s robust reputation.

Sarransh’s advice to aspiring entrepreneurs is rooted in his rich, varied experiences: “Failing is part of learning. Don’t be embarrassed by setbacks. Start small if necessary, be patient, and stay committed to your values. Most importantly, trust in your efforts and the support of your family.”

Lapicart’s journey from a startup struggling with adversity to a promising enterprise is a testament to the perseverance and innovative spirit needed to succeed in today’s competitive landscape. With its focused approach and commitment to quality, Lapicart is not just selling products; it’s building trust and redefining the market for used MacBooks.
