IBM Introduces GenAI Assistant for Coding

IBM has unveiled its WatsonX Code Assistant, a generative AI-powered tool designed to aid enterprise developers and IT operators in writing code more efficiently and accurately through natural language prompts. This product caters to two specific enterprise use cases. The first is IT Automation with WatsonX Code Assistant for Red Hat Ansible Lightspeed, which is geared towards tasks such as network configuration and code deployment. The second is mainframe application modernization with WatsonX Code Assistant for Z, which focuses on translating COBOL to Java on IBM Z. This product aims to accelerate development while upholding the values of trust, security, and compliance. It leverages generative AI based on IBM’s Granite foundation models for code, running on the IBM WatsonX platform. IBM is actively exploring the potential to enhance WatsonX Code Assistant with domain-specific generative AI capabilities to assist in code generation, code explanation, and the full software development lifecycle to drive enterprise application modernization further.
