Google Introduces Dark Web Report Feature to Enhance Online Security in India

Google is set to introduce its Dark Web Report feature to a limited number of users in India. This function, previously accessible only to United States users, will now be extended to Google One subscribers in India, as per reports. Google’s latest feature aims to assist users in safeguarding their personal information on the dark web. The Dark Web Report enables users to monitor potential data breaches involving details like names, phone numbers, and email addresses.
The dark web, a clandestine part of the internet, facilitates various illegal activities, including the sale of stolen personal data. Due to the concealed nature of these activities, tracing cybercriminals becomes challenging. To bolster the security of Google One subscribers, the Dark Web Report feature has been introduced. It sends alerts to users if their data is compromised or detected on the dark web. To utilize this feature, users need to create a dedicated profile where they can specify which information they want to monitor. If any of the selected information surfaces on the Dark Web, Google will promptly notify the user.
Google One subscribers can use the Dark Web Report feature to ascertain whether their name, birth date, up to 10 email addresses, and phone numbers have ever been compromised on the dark web. Users can also configure the feature to receive real-time updates and advice on managing their data.
While regular Google users can use the feature to monitor their email addresses, they are not able to track other details like Google One subscribers can.
In the current landscape of increasing cybercrimes in India, Google’s Dark Web Report feature is a significant step toward protecting personal information from misuse. This new feature offers Indian Google One subscribers an additional layer of data security. In March, Google One expanded its services to include all users in the United States after previously being exclusive to Premium 2TB plan subscribers. This expansion was accompanied by the introduction of a free VPN service.
