HCL’s Roshni Nadar Reveals No Prior Excel Sheet Experience Before MBA Pursuit

Speaking at an Indian Family Business Awards 2022, HCL Chairperson Roshni Nadar revealed this saying I was the only person at business school to never have used an Excel sheet,” on Saturday. Despite this, Nadar has risen to prominence, becoming HCL’s CEO in 2009. She attributed her journey to being a “trial by fire” due to not having siblings to seek guidance from. She acknowledged her parents and her partner, Shikhar Malhotra, as key mentors.
I have no siblings to learn from and my journey has been a trial by fire.
“My parents, my partner, and Srinivasan are my mentors,” Nadar said during the session.
Nadar also highlighted her pride in HCL’s philanthropic efforts and noted that the company had implemented a succession plan prior to her joining.
She further added the first industry she worked in at HCL was finance and by the time she had turned 28, she was already in charge of the holding company of the organisation.
“The first place I worked in HCL was in finance. By age 28 I had already been made CEO of the holding company,” she said.
