Rohit Jawa appointed as MD and CEO of HUL


Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL), a leading FMCG company, announced the appointment of Rohit Jawa as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Jawa, who currently holds the position of Chief of Transformation at Unilever, is set to assume the leadership position on June 27, 2023.

Following the retirement of Sanjiv Mehta, who served for a decade, Rohit Jawa has been appointed as the new Managing Director and CEO of Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL). In addition to this role, Jawa will also assume the position of President of Unilever South Asia and join the Unilever Leadership Executive (ULE) from April 1, 2023. As of the same date, he will commence his tenure as the CEO-designate and full-time director of the company.

Currently based in London, Rohit Jawa holds the position of Chief of Transformation at Unilever. Jawa has had a successful career with Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) since 1988 when he started as a management trainee. He has a remarkable track record of delivering consistent business results in India, Southeast Asia, and North Asia.

During his time as the Executive Vice President for North Asia and Chairman for Unilever China, Rohit Jawa spearheaded the transformation of Unilever China into a highly competitive, profitable, and stable business. Thanks to his efforts, Unilever China has become the third-largest market for Unilever globally.

According to a statement released by HUL, “Rohit Jawa’s expertise in leveraging traditional markets alongside digital technologies and future-oriented business models makes him the ideal candidate to lead the company into its next phase of growth”.

Nitin Paranjpe, the Non-Executive Chairman of HUL, expressed his pleasure on Rohit Jawa’s appointment, stating that “he is pleased to welcome him back to India. Paranjpe acknowledged Jawa’s extensive knowledge of the business landscape, particularly in Asia, and his instrumental role in transforming Unilever’s businesses in China and the Philippines. With his strong business acumen and growth-oriented mindset, Jawa is expected to lead HUL to a new level of performance”.

Sanjiv Mehta, the former Managing Director and CEO of HUL, played a crucial role in the company’s success since October 2013. Under his leadership, HUL achieved a turnover of over Rs 50,000 crore, and the market capitalization grew more than four-fold from $17 billion to $75 billion.
