Young diaspora are urged by Union Minister Anurag Thakur to develop and invest in India


Anurag Thakur, Minister of Union Information and Broadcasting and Youth Affairs, urged the young Indian diaspora to develop, invest, and launch their ideas in India.

Anurag Thakur said in a speech at the Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) opening ceremony in Indore on Sunday as part of the start of the three-day PBD convention that India overtook those who had controlled the country for 200 years to become the fifth largest economy in the world in 2022. The event’s honoree was Australian member of parliament Zaneta Mascarenhas. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, and S Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, were also there.

According to him, India rose to third place among countries with startups in the previous year. He stated that Indian youth recognised a chance to build startups as the world battled the pandemic.

For the first time since 2019, the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas conference is being held in person. The 17th iteration of the convention will be held under the topic “Diaspora: Reliable Partners for India’s Progress in Amrit Kaal.”

According to convention officials, more than 3,500 persons from around 70 different nations have registered. On Monday, January 9, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally open the convention. The presidents of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, and the Republic of Suriname, Chandrikapersad Santokhi, will attend as special guests of honour. The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards 2023 will be presented and the valedictory session will be presided over by President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday.
