Cognizant has formed an agreement with Chennai-based drone startup Garuda Aerospace to integrate advanced digital capabilities into its drones. The collaboration seeks to provide new solutions at scale to organizations seeking increased agility, efficiency, and a high return on investment (RoI).
“Drone services are one of the fastest growing technology segments with the potential to provide extraordinary value to industries such as agriculture, manufacturing, energy and utilities, retail, and logistics,” Achal Kataria, vice president and India country head, Cognizant, said in a statement. Cognizant and Garuda Aerospace are aiming to provide a wide range of end-to-end drone management and monitoring services to organizations across industries. Both companies feel that the relationship will aid in business scaling and growth.
In the agriculture industry, for example, a new solution includes intelligent water and soil management, crop spraying, and aerial planting, among other services. Aerial intelligence solutions aid in asset inspection, storm effect assessment, and fire safety, among other operational areas, for energy and utilities. With warehouse management, drones can be used for inventory audits, product tracking, video surveillance, and even assisting in the movement of lightweight objects, among other things.

“This collaboration with Cognizant will further enhance our ‘Made in India’ drones with world-class technologies and catalyze new, innovative solutions to help clients and their customers around the world,” said Agnishwar Jayaprakash, Founder and CEO, Garuda Aerospace.
Garuda Aerospace operates 400 drones and a staff of over 500 pilots in 26 cities around the country. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) approved it as an official remote pilot training organization in September (RPTO). Garuda is the 31st RPTO to be licensed in India since the Union government liberalized drone regulations in August of last year. The Chennai-based business also started a ‘drone yatra’ earlier this month to educate and showcase the efficacy of drones among farmers.
The cooperation will give Cognizant associates from other service lines, such as analytics and IoT, the ability to engage on such purpose-driven drone projects and real-world use cases. Additionally, employees interested in becoming drone pilots would have access to Garuda Aerospace’s training facilities, according to the business.
