FanDuel founder and Sequoia bet on Spanish-language fantasy sports app Draftea

Founder Alán Jaime Misrahi grew up playing soccer and eventually played in the third division of Mexico. Although he didn’t necessarily participate in the “Big League,” his new company, Draftea, wants to attract 350 million sports fans in Latin America. Has left stealth mode today after Kaszek raised $ 13.2 million featuring sports betting giant Fan Duel’s founder and former CEO Sequoia, Bullpen and Nigel Eccles. Eccles is the CEO of  Draftea.

Sequoia marks its first investment  in a company headquartered in Mexico six months after  venture capital announces that it will double its capacity in Latin America. The

Draftea app creates a roster of athletes for sports fans  and charges them for competing for daily  prizes. The plateform, which is currently in private beta mode, will be released in the first quarter of this year. Although hosting the Mexican fantasy soccer game first, Jaime Misrahi said he would eventually add deals until he started hosting the “All Sports in the World” fantasy game.

Draftea

“A region where football is mostly religion,  people gather for sporting activities, the stadium is full, and people enjoy [sports] as a family tradition with some WhatsApp group people when people talk about sports. Thinking and fantasy-we want to put it all together, “Jaime Misrahi said of Latin America.

Sports betting platforms such as Costa Rica’s Betcris are already popular in the region, but Jaime Misrahi states that Draftea is  a “much more social platform” by comparison. It also differs in that it provides daily games and interactions, as opposed to rare games hosted by seasonal fantasy platforms that tend to reflect the actual sports schedule.
