Tinder is developing a feature called ‘Swipe Party’ that invites friends to join your swiping sessions

Tinder has confirmed that it is considering developing a new feature called Swipe Party. This feature provides a way to classify possible games into more social experiences. According to the code in the Tinder mobile app, a swipe party requires access to the phone’s camera and microphone so that friends can “see and hear you while selecting prospects.”
This Tinder with Friends style experience is based on already popular offline activities. Nowadays, friends often swipe the app together to jointly decide which profile the Tinder account owner wants to match. However, for swipe parties, Tinder seems to want this to be a virtual experience where users can invite “guests” to swipe sessions to provide remote feedback.

This is in line with the broader trend of co-viewing apps such as Apple’s SharePlay, or co-viewing with friends made possible by Hulu, Prime Video, Disney + co-viewing features, and more. This trend was already growing in popularity, but was subsequently exacerbated by the COVID 19 pandemic and its social distance requirements. The
swipe party feature was first discovered in the code for the Tinder Android app on the Dutch website Gratis Dating Tips and was rumored by outlets such as Pocketlint and Phone Arena.
TechCrunch has confirmed that the Tinder app for iOS also has signs of a swipe party, according to an analysis by tech analyst Steve Moser. These friends created a guest account on Tinder by providing a phone number, validating it with a code, and entering their name and date of birth before joining the “party.”
