Tata group companies accelerates ahead of CPSUs in market cap race


The Tata Group companies have jumped ahead of the Central Public Sector Undertakings(CPSU) and companies in the country. Tata ended its 2021 valuation with its 20 listed companies with a combined market capitalisation of Rs23.36 trillion. Whereas, the CPSUs with its 70 listed companies gathered a market cap of Rs 23.2 trillion. 

Earlier at the end of December of 2020, the CPSUs had a combined market capitalisation of Rs 16.7 trillion whereas the Tata group firms had a combined market cap of Rs 15.7 trillion. This is also the first time since 1990 that the Tata group firms collectively overtook CPSUs in market cap.

This comes amid the shares of Tata Motors gaining about 4% since the company reported a 50% jump in its vehicle sales in December 2021. Tata Motors sold 23545 units in December 2021. Their stock jumped 3.59%  to Rs 499.70 on BSE and 3.60% to Rs 499.80 on NSE. 

Tata Motors President Shailesh Chandra said, “Tata Motors PV business growth journey continued and set several new milestones during the quarter despite witnessing a shortfall in production due to the ongoing semiconductor crisis”
