Dixon Technologies’ wholly-owned subsidiary, Padget and Orbic, a US-based smartphone maker, have entered into an agreement to manufacture smartphones at Padget’s manufacturing facility in Noida.
The new Orbic Myra 5G UW, powered by the Snapdragon 750G 5G Mobile Platform, will be the first 5G millimetre wave product to be produced in India for export to the US.
a 5G millimetre smartphone can deliver speeds of up to 5 gigabits per second (Gbps) on a single phone. This is 250 times faster than the top speed of 4G mobiles in India. At the same time, 5G millimetre smartphones have registered a speed of around 2 Gbps. This is about 90 times faster than the maximum speed recorded by the telecom regulator TRAI in India on 4G network. A top official of the company has given this information on Sunday.
Dixon has set up a manufacturing unit with an annual production capacity of 7 million 5G millimetre (mm) phones and it will create another one in Noida with an annual production capacity of 30 million smartphones. Sunil Vachani, Executive Chairman, Dixon Technologies said that the Orbic Myra 5G UW smartphone is the first partially designed smartphone in India. It can also operate in the high frequency band. The company has received an order from US-based Orbik.

This is a golden age for India to ramp up production under Dixon and build a portfolio that will include laptops, mobile hotspots and mobile devices, Orbik North America CEO, Mike Narula said in a statement. Narula said that this will take forward the ‘Make in India’ agenda and we plan to export these products to the US, Europe, Australia and Japan in 2022. According to a source, Dixon will start exports this month and is expected to export 2 million units overseas next year.
