Smartphone producer Xiaomi India partners with Saahas Zero Waste


The smartphone producer Xiaomi recently announced its partnership with waste management organisation Saahas Zero Waste in an attempt to raise awareness around e-waste.

This drive is an initiative by the Karnataka Pollution Control Board (KPCB) to reduce e-waste pollution and spread awareness about the sustainable development goals laid down by the United Nations. KSPCB along with Saahas, Xiaomi, and other brands aims to spread awareness across all 31 districts of Karnataka, covering approximately five million citizens.

Expressing their regard for the noble initiative undertaken by KPCB, the officials at Xiaomi stated, “At Xiaomi India, our focus is not only on responsible recycling, but also on awareness generation. KSPCB’s initiative to spread awareness on e-waste is a step forward towards building a sustainable and future ready tomorrow. We are honoured and privileged to be a part of this e-waste drive in Karnataka. This partnership will enable the company to push its boundaries and help contribute towards a more sustainable world.”

As a part of this drive, KSPCB plans to instil a sense of responsibility amongst the consumers regarding repair, refurbish, donate and recycle. The officials at Xiaomi revealed that they aim to collect about 100 tonnes of e-waste over the next month.

The initiative would also include developing suitable awareness content, managing the collection of all the e-waste and channelizing the same for recycling to authorised recyclers.
