Widhya | Gamifying The Learning Process

“If you have thought of starting up, then you should start without contemplating on getting investments or thinking too much whether it’s the right time or not. You need to step ahead and things will eventually fall into places.”- Rishabh Singh, Co- founder of Widhya in an exclusive interview with Startup Story Media.

Rishabh, a B-Tech graduate from Mahindra University who with a constant urge to do something beyond studies, started with different experiments and internships from his 1st year itself, where he got fantastic opportunities to move abroad, starting from Taiwan for a research internship to Vietnam and Egypt. When many asked how he got these opportunities, that was the moment Rishabh and his roommate Rahul thought to come up with a platform for the same. With an intention to break the tradition of only the toppers getting internships and placements all over the world, Widhya was started in their college days itself to provide students with industrial exposures from their years of graduation.

“Earlier we created an offline platform from where people can get internships from any field. We started with 100 students in collaboration with a couple of companies. We asked the companies about their criteria and created tasks for the students to perform.”- Rishabh

Widhya: Learning Beyond Syllabus

With a motive of providing education beyond syllabus Widhya was started in 2019 and till now it is named as one of the Top 10 Fastest Growing E- learning Startups in 2021 and is also recognized as Top 500 Startups of Kuberan’s House . Widhya is focusing on reaching talents to their desired destination. They are trying to gamify learning where students like playing any other video game will have that similar urge to learn something everyday through their e-learning platform.

“We want the students to get industrial exposure through actual jobs or internships by focusing on tasks that at the end help the students to learn.

Currently we have 10,000+ users, 800,000+ project hours and completed 35,000+ Microtasks”- tells Rishabh to Startup Story Media

Rishabh also added that unlike any other platforms which also provide internships but just by screening CVs, their platform is not limited to CVs, they screen through the candidate’s work.

“We tell them to do a couple of tasks on our platform and according to that we evaluate. They are not selected based on their CGPA, experience and field. All that we focus on is how they have performed in the microtasks and missions and accordingly move forward with their profiles.”- Rishabh

Along with this considering the booming Startup Ecosystem of India, Rishabh tells that their initiative will also save many startups’ and companies’ both time and money and at the same time get in touch with the deserving candidates.

A Better Learning Process

“People learn more by doing tasks themselves rather than just making projects and giving exams”- Rishabh

Rishabh tells Startup Story Media that they have specifically added a Feedback system and they are overwhelmed with the reviews they are getting through it. He added that many students not only come for getting internships rather they provide feedback that this a better form of learning where their doubts and concepts get cleared.

In the near future they are planning to collaborate with Multi National Companies and also planning to launch a subscription based model named ‘Widhya Learning Pass’ where if the candidates enrol themselves they will get a whole package of learning for a year followed by a guaranteed Internship and skill based webinars with practical learning approaches.

Obstacles On The Way To Establish Widhya

The biggest challenge for Widhya was to get people on their platform, says Rishabh during the interview session. Startup Story also learns that simultaneously Rishabh and his initiative was also facing to get companies on their platform. But through their gamification of the learning process they were able to bring quite a number of students and parallely approached few companies to hire from their platform.

Founder’s Message

“If you have thought of starting up, then you should start without contemplating on getting investments or thinking too much whether it’s the right time or not. You need to step ahead and things will eventually fall into places.”- Rishabh

Along with this Rishabh says that risk taking is very much necessary for starting out for a new venture. He also added that people do think a lot before starting which ultimately lead to the failure of the idea. So, according to him if one wants to start something of their own then they should try to start without thinking too much on the consequences.
