‘Waves’, a new way to invite friends to chat, reportedly developed by Clubhouse

Clubhouse, a popular audio chat app is reportedly working on ‘Waves’, a new way to invite people to audio rooms in its app. The invite feature is focused on the more casual, social side of Clubhouse.
According to screenshots shared by researcher Jane Manchum Wong on social media, Waves lets you wave at friends with a button identical to the hand in Clubhouse’s logo to invite them to chat. If they reply, they automatically get added to an audio room so you can talk.

Later, Clubhouse also announced the arrival of “a new feature.” But it did not clearly highlight ‘Wave’ in the tweet. The company said it has also renamed room “topics” to “titles” for better clarity. So far, Clubhouse seems to be designed for professional gatherings, although some organise light audio rooms for people with common interests. Clubhouse made its debut in early 2020 on the iOS platform and it was an unbridled success among iPhone users. And after a year later, it was made available on Android, and there too, despite the delay, was able to gather millions of users. In July, Clubhouse removed the waiting list arrangement and recently added new features such as spatial audio support. This has also created competition everywhere, from Twitter Spaces to Discord’s Stage Channels, but Waves seems like a good step towards the casual use of drop-in/drop-out live audio.
