Bengaluru-based Uravu Labs raises undisclosed amount in a seed funding led by Anicut Capital, others

Uravu Labs, a deep-tech firm located in Bengaluru that develops a sustainable supply of water from the air, has secured an undisclosed amount of funding in a seed round led by Anicut Capital, Rocketship VC, and Speciale Invest. According to the company’s press release, their system captures atmospheric moisture but also uses renewable energy to make drinking water. The startup claims that its solution will be commercialized by 2023 and will be used in the beverage, real estate, and hospitality industries.

Uravu Labs, founded in 2019 by Pardeep Garg, Swapnil Shrivastav, Venkatesh R, and Govinda Balaji, plans to expand its workforce in R&D, and engineering, marketing, and business development roles with the money to assist its growth and commercialization over the following two years. While the notion of water-from-air is not new, Uravu Labs claims to have developed a system that employs renewable energy. Traditionally, a large quantity of power is required for extracting water from the air, and according to Uravu Labs, this electricity is not necessarily supplied from clean and renewable resources.

The business has created drinking water devices using this technology and has several applications planned for them. Smaller capacity devices of 20-100 liters per day may find use in urban and rural communal areas, office complexes, and residential buildings, according to the company. The beverage industry can employ larger-capacity equipment capable of producing more than 10,000 liters per day, according to the report. According to the company, it has recruited beverage clients such as AB InBev and Radico Khaitan as customers and therefore is reaching out to many more beverage & commercial customers in the Indian, Southeast Asian, Middle Eastern, and Japanese markets.

“It also wants to collaborate with government & CSR partners to reach drought-stricken distant areas in India and Africa by next year with the cash.” Pardeep Garg, CEO and Co-founder of Uravu Labs, commented on the announcement, saying, “The seed investment will empower Uravu to accelerate its ongoing work of reducing stress on groundwater.” It will also allow us to mitigate resource depletion by having to convert abundantly available air into the water using only renewable energy. With field pilots currently in place, the business hopes to quickly test and expand the solution with major clients,” Garg explained. “The notion of 100 percent renewable water is pioneering, and we were encouraged by the team’s development,” said Sailesh Ramakrishnan, Partner at Rocketship.
