LectureNotes, an edtech startup raised about $2.5 Mn in Pre-Series A funding round from Jani Ventures, the Canada-based venture capital company.
Towards building a strong experienced team, developing its B2C platform and expanding to new regions, the funds will be majorly deployed by the edtech startup. In addition, a portion of funds towards improving and scaling its B2B digital class infrastructure named LectureRooms, the funds will be deployed.
Two projects under LectureRooms, where the startup will be focussing on are multilingual transliteration and data-driven student analytics.
LectureNotes was founded in 2017 by Upamanyu Chatterjee, Shouradeep Chakraborty and Md Fazal Mustafa. It offers online notes to undergraduate students. Currently the platform is available on the web, Android and iOS apps.
It offers services such as live learning via LecturePrime, handwritten notes via LectureNotes, insitututionalised courses via Lecture Academy, AI-personalisation of content called LectureRooms, video conferencing infra for stakeholders called LectureRemote and CollegeShala.

The edtech startup with a community building approach focuses on creating localised learning ecosystems. To the user’s university, its content is personalised and mapped. Further, based on their study patterns and preferences, an AI based recommendation system guides learners. Gamification of exam packages is presently being looked into.
Along with over 3 Mn pages of content the edtech startup claims to have 2 Mn users. Atleast 50 universities and over 1000 graduate campuses in India has been aimed to be onboard. By the end of FY22, it further targets to become a repository of hyperlocal learners in the country.
LectureNotes acquired Kolkata-based CollegeShala for an undisclosed amount in an all-stock deal, in January this year. The three co-founders of CollegeShala shared core responsibilities in the LecturerNotes Group, as part of the transaction.
To create ‘Lecture-verse’ – an edtech umbrella term for a slew of standalone edtech brands that cater to students of all age groups and classes, the acquisition is part of LectureNotes’ elaborate strategy.
Over a year after LectureNotes infused a funding of INR 1.83 Cr into CollegeShala in November 2020, the acquisition came in.
