With the tagline “AapkaApna digital classroom,” Umesh Yadav from IIT Roorkee Computer Science, Parveen Garg and Sahil Jindal from NIT started Skool Stream. Praveen engaged in an in-depth interview with Startup Story. Sahil and Praveen, who have been teachers for the past ten years and have been a part of some of the top coaching institutes based out of Kota including Bansal classes, vibrant academy, etc., already had the base plan ready before the pandemic struck. The observation that led to the breakthrough for the idea was that majority of the institutes did not have a portal to conduct examinations. “Despite everyone going digital somewhere or the other education in our country lags,” said Praveen provoking some thought. He further added that the bigger players in the market in the Ed-tech sector neglect equally important and relevant teachers running smaller institutes for students and through their platform SkoolStream they wish to provide just that. However, they were lacking in the technical part of things for which they onboardedUmesh who completely handles the technical work at SkoolStream.
The Launch And Making Of SkoolStream
“Since every other department and sector is getting digitalized, it becomes quite important for the education sector to pick up the pace as well” Praveen Garg, Founder SkoolStream.
The founders developed the idea and worked on it throughout the pandemic. Developing their own app, they launched on 1st September 2021. Praveen told Startup Story that he has been a teacher for almost a decade now and he and Sahil have been a part of several coaching institutes for which reason they have had a word regarding SkoolStream within their network who are quite open to adopting their platform. They also have had enough experience in the field to point out precisely what is needed.
They will also be relying on digital marketing for furthering their reach in the market. They also want to go ahead and hold some tutorials for teachers offline so that they can interact with them first-hand and understand their approach better. The most important feature about Skool Stream is that they are covering every department or institution whether it is in the creative field or educational, for example, one can use the platform to go online for a dance academy, for competitive exam preparation, cooking classes, etc. Currently, the app is free of cost without any hidden charges.
The team at SkoolStream
Apart from the three founders, they have Gaurav on the team who works at the backend. Umesh, who is also the CTO, looks into the technical part of things. They also have certain subject matter experts as they are also covering content for certain subjects. These experts include ParulSoni working in biology, RuchiSingal in biology, etc. They altogether have around 10-11 people as a part of their team.
USP
Praveen elaborated to Startup Story that within fifteen minutes they are capable of bringing a teacher digital. Once the institute is created and batches are formed, the teacher can invite his students on the platform through an invite link. Further, he can regulate the assignments and grading via the platform. Further, they have analytical tools to identify where a student lags which makes it quite easy for the students to understand where they are falling behind.
The main feature included in their platform is the availability of the subject matter which makes it easier for the teachers to avail the required syllabus on the platform itself. They can easily create questions for tests or examinations which can also be printed for offline use.
SkoolStream also provides its users with marketing tools like designing posters for starting a fresh batch etc., which can be shared through their social media.
Future plans
They plan on providing proper study material for students which is now restricted to only certain competitive exams but will cover other exams as well. They plan on keeping the basic plan free for the teachers but might charge for the more customized services of SkoolStream later down the line.
They wish to raise funding as an immediate plan which they will use to enhance the product and expand slowly.
Message for the audience
“Go digital when there is still time on your hands,” says Praveen to Startup Story sharing that digitalization is inevitable and the pandemic has been proof for the same. It is the way that everyone needs to adopt before it gets too late.
