This Mumbai-based Tech Startup helps businesses in enhancing their digital presence- Newlit Technologies

“When you start a business, you don’t actually know what’s ahead of you. There’ll be ups and downs, however sticking with the decision that you’ve started a business and being patient throughout the process is essential. Growth in a business is a result of your patience and perseverance,” said Sukriti Sinha, Co-founder of Newlit Technologies in a lively interview with Startup Story.

Introduction to the founders

Newlit Technologies was founded by Husband-Wife duo Abhinav and Sukriti Sinha.

Abhinav Sinha has done his B.A. in Media Design & Production from Indiana University Bloomington, and his Masters in Entertainment Technology from Carnegie Mellon University, both in USA. He has worked with prestigious organizations such as Amazon, MullenLowe Lintas Group, Schell Games, Disney, Lego, and others. As a self-starter, he is also a multi-award winning director in the USA, and has been recognized for his creative, technological, and entrepreneurial drive in the past.

Sukriti Sinha is an engineer from SRM University, and has also done her PGD in management and finance from the Welingkar Institute of Management. She has had a successful career with some of India’s biggest organizations like Reliance, Coal India Limited and Infosys, and has previously led Immersion Technologies in Dubai, as the Chief Operating Officer.

How did it all start?

Abhinav and Sukrit both had a unique background and a specific mindset about their past experiences: how can the tools, processes, systems, and solutions of these large companies sufficiently help small, growing organizations in India whose founders may not have had similar exposure before? Abhinav was highly driven by the fact that barriers should not exist between westernized technologies and the Indian market, and was motivated to bring all his learnings and insights to a rapidly growing startup market in India. Meanwhile, Sukriti’s business background and exposure made her feel that some of the best practices from large companies can rapidly accelerate the growth of younger organisations, in ways which can bring a paradigm shift in business operations.

Thus, Newlit Technologies was born. The duo launched their unique business proposition, built a strong team of experts, and started offering their high-end services to clients across various industries and geographies.

Sometimes, startup founders have a strong idea, or an MVP, but are not sure how to make their idea into a rapidly-scaling business, in which every element of growth has to be simultaneously developed, which is where Newlit Technologies comes in, helping businesses take the next step. “We help them in expanding their business, encouraging them and supporting each of their pillars with our services so they can expand as rapidly as possible,” said Sukriti.

National Award Winning Newlit Technologies created India’s first ever Virtual Reality Cognitive Assessment platform, to enable doctors to detect early signs of cognitive decline. Since then, the startup has launched several products to help people, and have been working with some of the most impactful clients across the world who share a similar mission statement.

“The goal is to make a meaningful impact in the lives of everyday people. By eradicating boundaries and limits to the capabilities of people, and bending the definition of what is possible and impossible, our aim is to leverage the latest technologies to assist people, businesses, and governments in making decisions that they can be proud of,” said Sukriti.

Services offered

Initially the company started with cutting edge AR/VR solutions. However, as their clientele expanded, they noticed the variety of areas in which organizations required help in growing their business. Newlit Technologies offers a whole host of services, all under one roof, from software and mobile development, to AI Solutions, Advanced Web Development, Digital Transformation Consultation, Digital Marketing Solutions, Corporate Decks, and Creative Video Services.

Customer experience

Overall customer experience has been great until now. Newlit Technologies has their clients in the USA, UK, India, UAE. The startup has partnered with Atal Incubation Centre in India, Techstars in the USA, and Hub71 in UAE, to name a few. “With the support of these incubation centres and our catalog of partners, the company is able to help a lot of startups leverage their full potential,” said Sukriti. They started with the UAE as a base market, and with expansion have grown their team and offices in Mumbai as well.

On being asked about the challenges that the company faced so far, Sukriti replied “As like every other business, Newlit has also been affected by COVID-19. We became a remote-first organisation and ensured each employee had the tools and resources to continue working. There was a lot of apprehension, especially initially, about what was going to happen. It was a scary moment for all the employees, as everyone around was losing jobs. We assured our employees that they would continue to get their salaries on time, and ensured that job security remained constant during those uncertain days. Having that security became a big boost mentally, and allowed us to successfully retain our entire workforce throughout the whole pandemic. However, if you see the lockdown overall, it actually triggered a need for people to spend more time online. Even in the market, with our clients, there was a large shift. People started to acknowledge the need to keep digital solutions at the forefront of any strategy, and understand how it can benefit them. So, the pivot of organisations to becoming digital-first enabled us to address a brand new segment and category that was slowly gaining traction before the pandemic, but had now accelerated.”

The company has a very small and dynamic team, one that has domain expertise in their respective fields. They also have contract and project-basis employees. They are a multicultural and diverse workforce, with nationalities from India, UAE, US, and the UK. The founders really value work-life balance. They have a flat organisational structure, continuous learning and growth opportunities, as well as empowering employees to feel like owners on each project they work on. With a structure that marries the best of the startup world with the operational elements of large companies, Newlit Technologies has clearly strived for a work environment that is truly collaborative and open.

Future plans and Funding

Apart from their services, Newlit Technologies is also looking forward to launching products in the coming months that will touch the lives of everyday people because they’re driven by finding ways of making an impact on society. It’s an online platform that will empower people to answer everyday questions, big and small, while also monetizing their time in the process. “It’s in development and we’re really hoping that it will be out in the market within 6 months.” About funding, Newlit Technologies is a completely bootstrapped company. Sukriti further added that once their product is out in the market then they’ll be open to early-stage funding.

Advice to Future Entrepreneurs

“Starting a business is an unbelievably difficult and experimental experience. You’ve to try so many things, oftentimes finding that you’ll fail, but greatly learning from the experience. You have to always pick yourself up and say that, okay, this is what I have learned, and this is how I will leverage it to make my next decision. And that’s how many people end up becoming successful entrepreneurs,” said Sukriti.
