This Chandigarh Based Startup Customizes Solar Plants As Per Customers Needs: Zestech Energies

Introduction To The Founder

23 year old Saksham Verma engaged in a lively interview with Startup Story where he enthusiastically shared the idea they were working on at Zestech Energies. “Follow your dreams and be patient because that is what it takes to reach somewhere and to believe in oneself and their ideas.”

He is based out of Chandigarh and completed his graduation from Punjab University post which he did a post-graduation diploma. Saksham always planned on making his own career for which reason he pursued entrepreneurship and the energy sector excited him. After proper research and thought he decided that solar energy was the present and future of energy generation globally. With that thought in mind he spent the quarantine period amidst the pandemic to deeply look into the sector. After he had completed this research he launched his own company Zestech Energies, which first came live on 30Oct, 2020.

Progress Until Now And Future Plans

Saksham told us that with Zestech Energies even in the short period of time that they have been live, they have achieved great milestones, having completed more than 50 projects and mining more projects subsequently. It has been a great journey for them. Chandigarh headquartered startup covers some major states in Northern India including Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand etc.

Talking about the next five years, Saksham wants to focus on Northern India rather than covering more areas. He thinks it is important to first do well in the area you already are in. After which they will cover western India as they are promising in the area of solar energy.

Story Behind The Name- Zestech Energies

Saksham told us that he spent three to four days looking for a suitable name for the company because that is something which stays and first represents the company. He stumbled upon the word zest and combining it with the word technology he came up with Zestech. Since the industry he works in is a combination of energy and technology he thought it was the most suitable and befitting name for them would be Zestech Energies.

Solar Energy, The Future

Recalling the time when he first came in touch with the idea Saksham told Startup Story that on his visit to Jaisalmer with his family back in 2017 that is when he first came in touch with the concept. He couldn’t help being fascinated by the solar plant there. He then had an elaborate, in depth conversation with his mentors about the plant. He revealed that he was quite intrigued by the idea as he had never had such an experience in the past. He then started looking around places that used solar panels to create energy.  After he completed his research in the year 2020 he had firmly made up his mind to work in the area.

Reaching The Customer

Saksham told us that unlike most brands they aren’t necessarily dependent on digital marketing, so they are using the traditional way of marketing so that they can directly meet and come in touch with the decision maker of the family using networks through friends and family. Someone who consumes energy on a large scale is mostly their target customers, including commercial businesses and bigger houses or villas etc. As for drawing the customers they make sure that the job done entirely satisfies the customer. They customise and design the plant as per need rather than having stiff plans.

The Team At Zestech Energies

Saksham told us that he undertakes a lot of responsibilities at the startup including finance, marketing, operations etc. They are a team of eight people out of whom three of them are responsible for the installation of the plant, two of them look after marketing, and two of them head operations and one works as a supervisor looking after the smooth functioning at the venture. Saksham added that “I prefer having skilled people on my team and that is exactly what my team is all about”

Setbacks And Failures Faced

As for challenges Saksham said that the pandemic posed a problem for them but they sailed through it with a cool mind. As they were marketing offline it was becoming difficult for them to approach customers.  As for competition they have big brand names that are catering in the area but they are sticking to their USP of providing a solar plant as per their need and with that they have been able to attract a number of customers and give them an edge over their competitors.
