How Will This Startup, Glamate Help You To Find The Right Beauty Product For Yourself?

“If technology has advanced so much then why shouldn’t it be used for finding the right skincare products? ” asks Glamate CEO and founder Sharmila Gayathri Chalasani in an interview with Startup Story

Education

“I did my Masters in Computer Science from the University of Cincinnati. After Masters I worked in a telecommunication company in the US and in United Health Care, as a business analyst consultant,” shares Gayathri. After that she moved back to India and started her own startup

Inspiration Behind Glamate

After moving back from the US,  it was difficult for her to find her Skincare routine from the products available in India using trial and error method, then it struck her that technology can be used for finding the right beauty care products. She pitched this idea to her senior Vignesh Charllo from Masters. Then they both started this platform – Glamate. “Glamate is made for your glamour. So it basically wants to glam you up” Glamate means Mate For your Glam(Glamour) shares Gayathri.

Launching Process

Gayathri says, “We have been working on this for 8-9 months but we have launched it recently, in 2021.”  Once they launched it, they did organic marketing. They have got incredible responses from people all over. In the next few months she wants to extend the marketing. Apart from customizing products for one particular person, they are also doing price comparison of a particular beauty product.

The Team And Future Plans

The founders want Glamate to grow and reach more and more people, and to add a dermatologist consultation, and start their own line of beauty products.

“Me and Vignesh who is Masters in Data Science, who manages the algorithm, mainly take care of the website. There are other freelancers who work at Glamate.

Tackling The Problem And Standing Out

” Before this,  we thought of maintaining our own inventory and shipping the products, but it turned out to be difficult. We thought that there are so many well known companies from which we tend to buy the product, so I wanted to both save customer’s money and encourage the brand to directly buy the product,” says Gayathri. Each and every day a new brand is coming out. So that can confuse an individual. That’s where Glamate comes into being pointing out to a person what product one requires for their skin type.

Inspiration

“Take that first move, everything will come in place,” says Sharmila Gayathri Chalasani, founder, Glamate told Startup Story when asked to share a piece of advice, she believes in the power of taking the plunge, the first step and eventually everything falls in place.
