Singapore’s IMDA CEO Steps Down After Six Years; Ng Cher Pong to Succeed
After a notable six-year tenure, Lew Chuen Hong, the Chief Executive Officer of Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), is stepping down from his role. His leadership period since June 2020 was marked by significant advancements in Singapore’s digital ecosystem, including driving pioneering initiatives in artificial intelligence governance, data protection reforms, and enhancing the nation’s digital infrastructure.
Effective November 1, 2025, Ng Cher Pong, who has been the Chief Executive Officer of the National Library and Archives Board (NLB) since December 2019, will take over as IMDA’s CEO. Ng brings over three decades of experience in public service, having held roles in key ministries including Manpower, Defence, Education, and Workforce Development. He is credited with spearheading the transformational Libraries and Archives Blueprint 2025 (LAB25), which reimagined NLB’s role in Singapore’s knowledge economy through innovative, omni-channel digital services and inclusive outreach.
Ng Cher Pong’s appointment marks a leadership transition designed to sustain and build on IMDA’s momentum in fostering a vibrant digital economy and society. Under Lew Chuen Hong’s stewardship, IMDA solidified Singapore’s position as a global digital hub, steering critical legislative updates such as amendments to the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) and initiating paths toward responsible AI adoption through frameworks like AI Verify.
Alongside this shift, Melissa-May Tam will succeed Ng Cher Pong as CEO of NLB from November 1, 2025, continuing leadership renewal within Singapore’s digital and cultural institutions.
The Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI) expressed gratitude for Lew’s contributions, commending his role in strengthening digital inclusion, security, and innovation ecosystems, which have been integral to Singapore’s continued growth on the global stage.
Ng’s appointment underscores Singapore’s commitment to dynamic, cross-sector leadership poised to navigate the evolving challenges of digital transformation.
In summary, the leadership change at IMDA signals a continuation of Singapore’s strategic focus on technological innovation and governance, with Ng Cher Pong set to steer the authority into its next phase of digital leadership and societal impact.
