Ola rebrands grocery delivery business from Ola Store to Ola Dash

Amidst the rising consumer interest in the Indian market for the quick commerce segment, Ola has recently rebranded its grocery delivery segment from Ola Store to Ola Dash. This move comes just a few months after its rival Grofers rebranded itself to Blinkit in an attempt to penetrate into the 10 minute delivery market.
With the recent rebranding, Ola promises to deliver groceries to the clients within 10 minutes. The new brand name draws a close correlation to the American quick delivery startup DoorDash which also promises a similar service.
The mobility unicorn had recently announced that it would be setting out a budget of INR 250 crore for the grocery delivery business which it intended to launch in November last year. The startup currently operates across six cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Pune, Hyderabad and Chennai and has claimed to be undertaking close to 6000-8000 orders daily. The startup has a network of more than 100 dark stores which enables it to close in bulk orders.
However, it is interesting to note that this is the third time that Ola has hopped on the bandwagon of deliveries. In July 2015, the Bengaluru based startup launched a standalone grocery store in Bengaluru along with a food delivery service. It is noteworthy to observe that both the businesses were later on shut down by the startup owing to logistic issues.
With the recent rebranding exercise Ola is certainly making big promises to its clients. However, the question of whether the failure of its previous attempts will put forth a dark cloud over the operations of this business is something to look forward to.
