Mayank Agrawal Memorial Fund | A Fund Started By A Mother After Losing Her Son To COVID

Purnima Agarwal, a mother was left despaired after the passing of her 29yr old son who had been battling COVID-19. To honour his remembrance and understanding the extremity with which the pandemic had shook the country to its core. She saw several distraught families struggling because of lack of resources and money for their near and dear ones and so Purnima Agarwal along with Mayank’s brother started the ‘Mayank Agarwal Memorial Fund’ to help low income families get treatment. The fund was initially started by engaging Varun Agarwal’s instagram followers.

Mayank Agarwal was a kind young man with a deep sense of humanity, he battled against the virus for 20 days, which were the most testing times faced by his family. He took his last breath in a hospital in Bangalore on April 26.  Purnima Agarwal told Varun that in order to help her son attain ‘moksh’ and keep his memory alive they needed to respond to the urgent need of help for fellow countrymen as that would have made him the happiest which was followed by starting the Mayank Agarwal Memorial Fund. With people contacting the virus on such a high scale, there was an upsurge in need of resources from oxygen cylinders, medicines, hospital beds and most importantly a lot of families struggled with hospital bills and other such financial problems. With the pandemic which was closely followed by nationwide shutdown, the economy had suffered immensely.

Keeping all these things in mind and to extend their share of help Purnima and her son were able to raise over 25lakhs of funds within the first 24 hours of the announcement on Varun Agarwal’s instagram page which had an active following of 60,000 members. Any fund raised through the initiative reaches a family trying to cover medical bills for near and dear ones, the campaign follows a series of steps including verification of financial background of the family in need, communication to the respective hospital, doctors of the recipient, post verification completion a link to donate is generated on Ketto or Milaap. The team and both Purnima and Varun have been working without breaking a sweat towards the initiative so that the money reaches the respective individual on time and enough funds are raised. They are looking forward to expanding the initiative to various other social media platforms as well. The initiative was started with a deep cause and meaning attached to it and the family has been adding on their own resources time and again for the success of their campaigns. The ‘Mayank Agarwal Memorial Fund’ has been able to raise Rs 4,915,369 and run 20 fundraising campaigns until now.
