Kelp snacks, cargo tracking, and electric boat engine startups part of Maritime Blue accelerator


Maritime Blue, a public-private coalition that promotes marine-related technology in Washington, has announced  10 startups to join Accelerator 2022. Seven are from Washington or Oregon. The cohort, consisting of two teams led by four female founders and the People of Color, supports Accelerator’s conscious attempt to bring diversity to the historically white, male-dominated marine sector. increase. 

 “We are passionate about contributing to  this diverse startup group that brings unique value to the regional blue economy ecosystem, from seaweed to global supply chain solutions,” Washington Maritime Blue said. Said Joshua Burger, founder and CEO of. 

 This is the third year of  Maritime Blue Innovation Accelerator. The mentoring program runs for four months and culminates in the May startup showcase. 

 Past participants are based in Discovery Health, a long-distance medical services company  for marine workers who has grown to  more than 200 employees, and Seattle, which received a grant from Pure Watercraft to build everything. Blue Dot Kitchen (Bainbridge Island, Washington)-Make seaweed-based snacks. 

Carbon Orca (Seattle)-Development of an electric hydrofoil. 

Duplex M (Anacortes, WA)-Provides software for optimizing ship battery performance. 

Marine Safety Solutions (Poway, CA)-Manufactures shields used on ocean-going vessels to prevent fire. 

Photon Marine (Portland)-Development of commercial outboard motors. 

Sea Potential (Seattle)-Promotion and support of black people in the maritime sector.  Steamchain (Beaverton, Oregon)-Operating a platform for processing payments between businesses. 

WeavAir (Singapore)-Sales of software and hardware for monitoring and improving air quality. Accelerators are part of Maritime Blue’s extensive efforts to support the maritime industry. 

In December, the coalition government received $ 500,000 in the first phase of a federal-funded clean tech challenge. It plans to use the money to help commercialize new technologies aimed at decarbonizing heavyduty transportation and reducing carbon emissions.
