Nitin Savara, the deputy chief financial officer of food delivery startup Zomato, resigned a day after the company held its first annual general meeting (AGM) on Tuesday. Savara, who joined the firm in December of last year, has left to follow his entrepreneurial goals, according to two people familiar with the situation.
Savara, a lawyer, and chartered accountant joined Zomato from EY, where he was a partner in charge of M&A tax. Savara was the deputy to Akshant Goyal, who was previously the head of corporate development before being named CFO in October 2020. A Zomato representative did not respond to email inquiries, and Savara could not be reached for comment right away.

Savara joined Zomato in November of last year from Ernst & Younger, a multinational specialized services firm where he was a partner. Savara delivered during his time at Zomato. The business indicated in the declaration that Savara was not designated as key managerial staff. Savara is leaving Zomato to establish his own business.
“Nitin Savara loves Zomato, and as much as I and Akshant (Goyal, CFO) attempted to keep him with us for the past couple of weeks, it didn’t work since Nitin is excited about what he wants to construct and no one can stop him:). Furthermore, I am the last person to discourage somebody from starting their own business. We want more entrepreneurs in our country, not less,” CEO Deepdiner Goyal said to his employees on the company’s Slack channel, a screenshot of which was included in the disclosure.
