Zomato updates its guidelines and now lets users report health breaches


Gurugram-based A rule that prohibited users from reporting health-code breaches on the restaurant discovery and meal delivery platform has been removed from Zomato’s new content policy. 

The action was made in response to a user’s Sunday tweet claiming that Zomato had removed a review she had placed about getting food illness at a restaurant in Bengaluru, citing the platform’s content guideline.

“We do have some limitations on the kind of content that are allowed on Zomato. Zomato is not the right venue for reporting health code violations, per our content policies. We think it’s better to report this specific issue to the relevant authorities so they can look into it.According to a screenshot posted by the user on Twitter, Zomato responded, “Due to this reason, your review has been erased. 

This “policy” under our content guidelines was the consequence of (legal) overthinking, and we have removed it with immediate effect, Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal stated in response to the tweet on the microblogging website. Additionally, we already restored your review. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and working to rectify things.
