Zomato Unveils New POS Developer Platform to Revolutionize Restaurant Operations

On Tuesday, Zomato launched its new POS (point of sale) developer platform, a significant move aimed at enhancing the operational efficiency of restaurants. This platform is designed to streamline and optimize restaurant management through a range of advanced features and tools.

The new POS developer platform offers easy-to-read documentation, real-time API testing, and a comprehensive toolkit for Zomato’s POS partners. These features are intended to facilitate the introduction of new functionalities at scale, providing developers with a seamless experience for onboarding and integration. According to Zomato, “developers can create an account and access integration guide providing step-by-step instructions.” This feature is expected to simplify the development process by enabling immediate troubleshooting through real-time API and webhook testing.

The launch of this platform is a continuation of Zomato’s efforts to support restaurants in optimizing their operations. The company has previously partnered with various POS players to enhance systems that manage inventory, payroll, and real-time analytics. “Over the last several years, Zomato, in partnership with various POS players, has worked deeply to innovate on new features, helping restaurants transform the way they manage and optimize their operations. As the restaurant industry scales, there is a need to enable POS players, both new and existing, to be able to solve problems in a quick and efficient manner for more restaurants,” Zomato stated.

This initiative is part of Zomato’s broader strategy to improve its business margins across different verticals. In recent weeks, the company has introduced several new features, including dark mode for its app, the Zomato for Enterprise (ZFE) platform for corporate billing, order scheduling, and group ordering. Additionally, Zomato launched a loyalty program called brand packs in July, which rewards customers for ordering frequently from their favorite restaurants.

The company has reported impressive financial results, with a 53 percent year-on-year increase in the gross order value of its B2C business, reaching Rs 15,455 crore in Q1 FY25. Its B2B business, Hyperpure, saw a 96 percent YoY growth during the same period. Zomato’s consolidated net profit surged to Rs 253 crore in Q1 FY25, up from Rs 2 crore in Q1 FY24 and Rs 175 crore in Q4 FY24.
