Zomato tests B2B logistics service for ecommerce businesses: Report

According to a report, Zomato is gearing up to launch a logistics service that will cater to the delivery of food, pharma products, and consumer goods for other e-commerce players. The company plans to start with a business-to-business (B2B) model and has already approached food and grocery aggregators, e-pharmacies, and consumer brands in the last 30-45 days. The report states that the service has already fulfilled a few thousand deliveries.

According to reports, Zomato has set a price range of Rs 38 – Rs 52 per kilometre for its logistics service. However, some ecommerce firms do not find the offering valuable as they feel that Zomato’s pricing is similar to that of other existing players.

In the face of a slowdown in food delivery volume and revenue, Zomato has taken measures to regain its market share from Swiggy. It reintroduced the Gold membership programme, now known as Pro, in January, and rebranded its 10-minute food delivery service to Zomato Instant, which now focuses on providing affordable home-style food. HSBC has credited the Gold membership programme with helping the company regain its market share from its competitor.

To boost its revenue, Zomato is focusing on increasing commissions from restaurants and urging them to spend more on marketing.
