On Saturday Zomato kicked off a pilot test of delivering groceries via Blinkit on its main platform in Delhi-NCR, the online food aggregator aims to “accelerate” the 10-minute delivery application`s journey to profitability.
The pilot test is now being conducted in a few Delhi-NCR circles; however, after evaluating the results, it will also be extended to other cities.
A Zomato spokesperson told IANS, “Blinkit tab in Zomato app is currently a pilot running at a few locations for a small set of customers. We will share more details on this in due course,”.
Those who are a part of the pilot project can presently order on the parent company,Zomato in its main app for a minimum order value of Rs 150 through Blinkit, while on Zomato, it stays Rs 49.
Zomato’s founder and CEO, Deepinder Goyal, has stated that the company will experiment with cross-leveraging its client base for Blinkit and vice versa after the acquisition of Blinkit is finalised.
He told in the letter to shareholders,”The Blinkit app will continue to operate independently. We will also start working on integrating the delivery fleet back-ends which should drive higher delivery efficiency over time.”
The company also mentioned”Quick commerce cuts across a wide range of essential spends including grocery, fruits and vegetables, beauty and personal care, OTC medicines, stationery items, among others. Therefore, we expect the overall customer base, average order value as well as monthly order frequency to be higher than food delivery.”
The two businesses’ technological synergies will quicken the speed of development on both fronts.
The business claims that Blinkit’s monthly losses are decreasing, having dropped from Rs 2,040 million (about $26 million) in January 2022 to Rs 929 million ($12 million) in July.
In addition, Blinkit closed a number of dark stores that were not profitable and the team will continue to assess underperforming stores.
With a presence in fewer than 15 locations, the Blinkit company has grown to account for 20% of Zomato’s food delivery GOV in only six months.
Blinkit last week announced to deliver printouts at people`s doorsteps in a jiffy.
