Women Entrepreneurs Club launched by Jayesh Ranjan

Mr. Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary of the Government of Telangana, addressed a group of over 500 women entrepreneurs and emphasised that the days when women were solely associated with activities such as making papad, pickle, and masala are in the past.

He clarified that he does not intend to belittle those activities, but instead wants to highlight that women are capable of much more, including high-value entrepreneurship and breaking societal norms. He expressed that women are currently engaged in advanced entrepreneurship and challenging the traditional way of thinking.

Mr. Jayesh Ranjan was the honoured guest at an event organised by WEDO (Women Entrepreneurship Development Organization), a Chennai-based accelerator program exclusively for female entrepreneurs. The event, called the Business Women Expo 2023, was held at Hitex.

During his speech, Jayesh Ranjan expressed the “Telangana state government’s dedication to fostering women’s entrepreneurship. To further advance this cause, the state plans to establish a centralised, single-window system that will cater to all the needs and requirements of female entrepreneurs and provide them with necessary support”.

The upcoming facility, which is set to launch in a month’s time, will be the first of its kind in India. It will feature a support system that assesses products in the early stages of their development and informs entrepreneurs of any potential issues before valuable time is wasted.

Additionally, the facility will provide various types of assistance, including branding and packaging, and it will be available to both educated and illiterate individuals across Telangana.

The single-window system will also extend to the Mandal level, where it will offer encouragement and aid to rural women and entrepreneurs. This is a significant development, and the necessary groundwork is already underway, as discussed by Mr. KT Rao during a recent International Women’s Day celebration.

In addition, Mr. Ranjan revealed the cover of an upcoming book titled “Visionary Women Collective,” which will soon be available for purchase. The book will feature the stories of 100 accomplished female entrepreneurs in India.

Kadambari Umapathy, the founder of WEDO, highlighted in her opening speech that “women’s empowerment is no longer the central issue; rather, it is a time for gender equality. Men and women are equal and should work collaboratively to support each other’s advancement. She encouraged everyone to work together and contribute to the growth and development of their country, emphasising the need for inclusive growth”.

WEDO hosted a series of day-long sessions, which covered a range of topics such as the Art of Raising Capital, the Top 10 Legal Know-Hows for Women, and Storytelling by the World Storytelling Championship.

The event also included discussions on property investments by a specialist, the launch of the Visionary Women Collective book, a presentation on the Ippo Pay payment gateway, and a session on Fundenable Investment, where attendees received advice from a specialist in this area.
