upGrad Forms Advisory Board to Propel Growth of upGrad Institute in Singapore


Edtech giant upGrad, led by Ronnie Screwvala, has established an esteemed advisory board consisting of seven industry leaders to drive the expansion of upGrad Institute, a government-approved private education institution in Singapore. The board will provide valuable insights to accelerate upGrad’s mission of building a robust government-approved learning institute, equipping the global workforce with an industry-ready experiential curriculum supported by prestigious university credentials.

The advisory board members bring a wealth of expertise from various domains, making this collaboration a significant step towards transforming lifelong learning into a global mindset. Professor Arnoud De Meyer, Ex-President of Singapore Management University, will serve as the chairman, while other notable board members include Prof S Sadagopan, Chairman of BoG, IIITDM-Kancheepuram and Founder Director, IIIT-Bangalore; Magdalene Ew, Head of Content – Entertainment, Southeast Asia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, Warner Bros. Discovery; Jeremy Williams, Managing Director of PropertyGuru Marketplaces; Laura Parsons, Vice President of Human Resources, BBC Studios; Larry Bradley, CEO of SolasAI, Inc; and Mohit Nayyar, Vice President of Human Resources, Global Skin and Personal Care, P&G.

“We are on a mission to make lifelong learning a global mindset, and with such profound leadership onboard, we’ve just got a few more steps closer,” stated Ronnie Screwvala, Co-founder and Chairperson of upGrad. “We see this as an opportune time to strengthen our international footprints and build a stronger camaraderie between academia and industry. These latest appointments not just reassure our commitment but also power our ambition of rewriting the global skilling landscape,” he added.

Prof Arnoud De Meyer, the Chair of the Advisory Board at upGrad Institute, expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “The opportunity to provide job-ready education delivered flexibly and affordably through upGrad Institute’s proprietary content and accomplished faculty is exciting, and I am pleased to support this endeavor.”

upGrad has invested $5 million in establishing and scaling upGrad Institute and is now welcoming enrollments for its debut doctorate programs and select skilling courses in data science and management, offered in collaboration with top global universities. The first batch is set to commence within the next 60 days.

Earlier this month, upGrad was visited by officials from the goods and services tax (GST) department for a routine survey. Koell Hemdev, Head of Legal at upGrad, assured that the company is fully compliant and cooperating with the GST department during the survey.
