‘The Maradona’ brand is getting ready to set foot in India

As a legion of Indian fans rejoices in Argentina’s World Cup victory, a brand named after football star Diego Maradona is all set to enter the nation under a licensing arrangement, officials said.

According to the press release, the affiliation will allow the “Maradona” brand to expand into other product categories through strategic relationships with enterprises.

“We have been appointed by Sattvica SA, the owner of the ‘Maradona’ brand, as their exclusive India partner,” Bradford License India Executive Director and CEO Sachin Goel told PTI. Bradford License India received its authorization certificate last month. Over 60 global brands in fashion, lifestyle, consumer goods, sports, and other areas are managed by the firm.

“We are discussing potential partnerships for Maradona merchandise with large fashion companies and e-commerce retailers. The products will be made available as per the partnership launch plans,” Goel said. There will be no focus on a certain location or state, but youth and sports aficionados will be the target consumers, according to the official.

“The Maradona brand merchandise will take three to four months to be available in the market, and the campaign in India will be long-term,” he said.

When asked about the brand’s potential in India, Fabian Olemberg, who lives in Argentina and works with Bradford License India as an agent for the Maradona brand, replied, “Maradona was an icon of the game. His name alone is aspirational. There is an enormous opportunity for it to do well across categories.”

According to Goel, licensing is an appropriate way for a brand like this to become part of India’s growth story. Maradona, who helped Argentina win the 1986 World Cup, is considered one of the greatest footballers of all time.

On Sunday, the South American country won the World Cup for the first time in 36 years, defeating France 4-2 on penalties in a thrilling match.
