Teachmint Co-founder and CTO Anshuman Kumar Leaves to Pursue New Venture, Duolop, Amid the Edtech Startup’s Struggle to Scale Business and Mounting Losses

Anshuman Kumar recently left his position at Teachmint in order to focus on his vision for a new platform called Duolop. The app is designed for couples, whether married or unmarried, and aims to simplify relationship management. Kumar believes that Duolop will be more technically aligned with his vision than his previous job. Meanwhile, Teachmint has experienced a significant increase in net losses, with a surge of 24 times from INR 5.52 Cr in FY21 to INR 131.70 Cr in FY22.

Anshuman Kumar, Teachmint’s CTO and co-founder, has announced that he left the edtech startup last month to concentrate on his new venture, Duolop. Kumar shared the news on LinkedIn on April 7, stating that he would be taking on a new role as the founder of Duolop, an innovative Indian app that simplifies the complexities of managing a relationship for both married and unmarried couples.

Kumar, along with Mihir Gupta, Payoj Jain, and Divyansh Bordia, established Teachmint in 2020 with the aim of assisting teachers and schools in digitalizing their classrooms. The startup has secured funding from prominent investors like Lightspeed India, Rocketship.vc, and Better Capital.

In a conversation with Inc42, Kumar explained that he left Teachmint last month because he intends to create a platform that is more aligned with his technical vision.

According to Kumar, Duolop is an application designed for couples, both married and unmarried, to make managing a relationship easier. The app provides a private chat feature that allows couples to send messages, pictures, and videos to each other, as well as assisting them in planning dates. The app is currently available on the Google Play Store and will soon be available on the Apple Store.

Teachmint’s spokesperson announced that the edtech startup has appointed new leadership to continue building their scalable tech stack after co-founder and CTO Anshuman Kumar left to focus on his new venture, Duolop. The departure comes as Teachmint pivots from B2C to B2B, struggling to scale its business amid mounting losses. The startup is backed by marquee investors, including Lightspeed India, Rocketship.vc, and Better Capital, and has recently started offering software to help digitise schools.

Teachmint’s net loss surged to INR 131.70 Cr in FY22 from INR 5.52 Cr in FY21, and it has recently discontinued Teachmore and laid off employees. Anshuman Kumar’s departure from the CTO role comes at a time when many Indian tech startups have seen their top executives resign, including Zomato, Nykaa, and Swiggy.
