Tata Neu CTO Sauvik Banerjjee Resigns, External Hire Likely To Fill The Position

Sauvik Banerjjee, Tata Neu’s chief technology officer (CTO), has allegedly left the business just months after its inception. Banerjjee, who is now in the United Kingdom, informed Business Standard that he left the firm a few weeks ago and will return to India next month.

“I am a British national who was hoping to return to a worldwide position.” “I made a decision a few months ago and chose to move on after the launch,” he explained.  According to a company spokesperson, Banerjjee left Tata Neu 10 days ago and also that the team was “well equipped to resolve any difficulties.”  According to sources familiar with the situation, the conglomerate was seeking for external employees to fill the job.

In 2016, Banerjjee quit consulting company SAP to join the Tata Group. He began his career as the CTO of Tata Cliq before moving on to the CTO post at Tata Digital in 2019. Banerjjee was Tata Digital’s founding CTO and oversaw the release of the much-touted super app.

While the program was announced with great enthusiasm in April, the super app did not have the greatest of starts. According to a report, the app fell short of its internal target of $200 million in gross sales in its first month of operation, capturing gross sales of $120 million to $150 million.

Meanwhile, senior authorities are understood to be receptive to putting non-Tata businesses on the super app in fields where the Tata Group does not have a big presence. The app is also experiencing teething problems, ranging from user interface (UI) to platform integration of financial services.

Tata Neu provides a variety of services under one roof, ranging from UPI payments to travel booking and supermarket shopping to pharmaceutical purchases. It is home to brands like 1mg, BigBasket, Croma, Tata Cliq, and Westside, among others.
