Tata Cliq to launch offline cosmetic retail chain

Tata Cliq, a Tata Group online retail platform, proposes to launch physical stores to sell beauty products across the country as many consumers return to offline shopping, according to sources.

The company is still in the process to lease retail spaces at stores in shopping malls and high streets across major cities in India. An unnamed source mentioned that the company is currently testing an app for beauty and cosmetics, Tata Cliq Palette, and aims to expand it to the physical retail mode. There will be options for both online as well as offline stores for purchasing beauty products.

Even though Tata Cliq itself refused to comment on its coming project, sources tell that they will be starting with small format stores with various domestic and international brands in metro cities. Executives hinted at Tata Cliq’s business on luxury beauty products and proving its unique position amidst the already existing platforms, like – Nykaa, and Myntra, to name a few.

This e-commerce platform currently deals with apparel and electronics. Tata Cliq is likely to be combined with the Tata Neu super app and spun out as a subsidiary of Tata Digital as the company attempts to concentrate its key e-commerce projects under one body. Tata Cliq is now managed by Tata UniStore, a joint venture between Tata Industries and the group’s lifestyle retail business Trent.

According to Avendus’ 2021 research, the online personal care and cosmetics industry in India would reach $4.4 billion by 2025. Based on the report, the number of online beauty and personal care buyers is expected to more than quadruple — from 25 million in FY20 to 110 million in FY25.
