Swiggy Partners with IRCTC to Deliver Pre-Ordered Food on Trains

In a strategic move aimed at enhancing the travel experience for train passengers, Swiggy, the leading online food ordering and delivery platform, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). The partnership, marked by an official exchange between Sanjay Kumar Jain, Chairman and Managing Director of IRCTC, and Rohit Kapoor, CEO of Swiggy Food Marketplace, seeks to address the challenge of limited food options during extended train journeys.
The initiative is set to commence on March 12, starting with four stations – Bengaluru, Bhubaneshwar, Visakhapatnam, and Vijayawada. Subsequently, it will expand to an additional 59 city stations in the following weeks, providing a solution for passengers aboard designated trains.
Chairman Sanjay Kumar Jain expressed IRCTC’s commitment to exploring innovative ways to enhance the comfort and convenience of train journeys. He stated, “This partnership with Swiggy will bring more convenience and food options to our passengers.”
Swiggy’s CEO, Rohit Kapoor, highlighted the nationwide presence of both organizations and expressed optimism about a positive response from passengers and restaurant operators. “We are hopeful of a buoyant response from passengers and restaurant operators on this route, which will hopefully lead to us providing services on more stations and on newer routes,” he said.
To ensure the quality and convenience of the service, the food delivered to passengers will be packaged in insulated Swiggy bags. Swiggy’s support agents will undergo training in resolution processes, gratification, and cancellation policies. Equipped to address customer issues, the support agents will also liaise with restaurants and delivery partners based on order status and customer requirements.
This collaborative effort between Swiggy and IRCTC is poised to transform the culinary experience for train travelers, offering a diverse range of pre-ordered food options delivered directly to their seats.
