Swiggy appoints Aparna Giridhar as VP Marketing, replacing Ashish Lingamneni

Swiggy, the popular food and grocery delivery platform, has appointed Aparna Giridhar as its new VP of marketing. Giridhar comes with 11 years of experience from her previous role at Unilever.

She takes over from Ashish Lingamneni, who served as VP marketing for almost six years before stepping down. Giridhar’s appointment is expected to bring a fresh perspective to Swiggy’s marketing strategy as the company continues to expand its presence in the highly competitive food delivery market.

Giridhar, the newly appointed VP Marketing at Swiggy, began her career at Unilever Singapore as a summer intern before joining the company’s India office in 2012 as part of the Unilever Future Leaders Program.

She rose through the ranks, starting as an area sales manager in Chennai before eventually becoming the general manager of eCommerce. At Unilever, Giridhar managed various brands, including Lakme and Glow & Lovely.

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE)-backed National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pernod Ricard India, a prominent alcoholic beverage firm, to launch the “Livelihood Creation” initiative.

In an effort to make the transgender community more employable and future-proof, the Livelihood Creation project, a placement-linked skill training initiative, has been launched by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) in partnership with Pernod Ricard India. The project aims to provide market-oriented training to 240 transpersons in Mumbai, enabling them to integrate smoothly into society. Retail sales and front office are among the job roles in which candidates will receive skill training, according to the announcement.

The 2011 Census report revealed that while 75% of the general population was able to secure employment for more than six months, only 65% of transgender individuals were able to do so.

Ved Mani Tiwari, the COO (Officiating CEO) of NSDC, has emphasized “the importance of addressing the livelihood obstacles faced by transgender individuals, which often result in a significant proportion of them turning to illicit sex work, putting their health and safety at risk. Tiwari believes that tackling these barriers is essential for the success of any public health program. The Livelihood Creation project, in partnership with Pernod Ricard India, aims to create a stigma-free and equitable society that provides better education, employment, and health services to the transgender community, enabling them to live with dignity”.
