Snapdeal, an e-commerce platform, will sometimes debut on the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) the following month. Snapdeal inked the onboarding agreement earlier in the month and is nearing the completion of its platform integration. The startup plans to deploy across India by mid-August.
“A chain of sellers from North, West, South, and East will support Snapdeal’s launch on ONDC,” the e-commerce site said in a statement. Snapdeal will start across three essential categories on the ONDC platform: fashion, lifestyle, and beauty & personal care. Snapdeal will also collaborate with several third-party logistics companies to distribute things and may investigate the platform’s ‘On-network’ logistics alternatives.

Snapdeal’s move is part of an effort to increase its user base and boost its presence in smaller towns and cities. Non-metro locations account for more than 86 percent of the e-commerce giant’s orders. Snapdeal joins many high-profile companies that have declared ambitions to list on ONDC, including a slew of Flipkart affiliates, Dunzo, Paytm, and Meesho, among others. ONDC is in negotiations with around 200 firms about joining the network to improve ‘visibility and access for sellers.’
The experiment, which was launched in April of this year, is presently being tested in 20 cities. Earlier on Monday (July 18), 15 additional cities were added, including Noida, Faridabad, Lucknow, Bijnor, Bhopal, Thrissur, Udipi, Kanchipuram, Pollachi, Mannar, and Ramanathapuram. ONDC, which is backed by the Indian government, is an accessible protocol-based digital commerce network that allows buyers and sellers from all categories to list on the platform and trade with consumers. The project has drawn attention and is being billed as being one of the Centre’s largest undertakings in recent years.
