Sequoia-backed Practo appoints Amit Kumar Verma as CTO
Practo, a telemedicine company, has appointed Amit Kumar Verma as their new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). This appointment comes just a few months after he was promoted to the position of Head of Engineering in the consumer-facing division of the company.
Previously, co-founder Abhinav Lal was serving as the CTO and overseeing the technology team. Amit brings with him over 20 years of experience in product engineering and has successfully led multiple software projects in both the business-to-business and business-to-consumer industries. He has worked for prominent companies such as Bigbasket, Ola, Oracle, Yahoo, and Microsoft.
In June last year, he was selected to lead the engineering division of Practo’s B2C business.
Amit stated, “Practo possesses all the essential components to succeed in a challenging industry that demands persistence, tenacity, and creativity. With a highly skilled medical, product, engineering, and other management teams, as well as a solid leadership team, the company’s journey has been amazing to watch. I am excited to be leading the technology division.”
Practo, established by Shashank Navalurkar Dattatreya and Abhinav Lal in 2008, is a web-based platform that allows for appointment booking and telemedicine. It expanded into offering surgical services in 2021. To date, the company has received $251 million in funding from investors such as Sequoia Capital, Matrix Partners India, Tencent, and AIA Group.
