SEBI Marks 35th Foundation Day with Unveiling of New Logo

On its 35th foundation day, the Securities and Exchanges Board of India (SEBI), the capital markets regulator, revealed a new logo in the presence of former Chairmen and present Whole Time Members. The logo signifies SEBI’s commitment to adopting global best practices in the securities market through the effective use of data, technology, consultation, and partnerships, as stated in an official statement.

The newly unveiled logo of the Securities and Exchanges Board of India (SEBI) represents a harmonious blend of the regulator’s rich traditions and modern data-driven and technology-based approach towards fulfilling its mandate in the securities market, including development, regulation, and investor protection, according to SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch. SEBI, which was established in April 1988, aims to establish global best practices in the securities market through its innovative and progressive approach.

SEBI, the markets regulator, has taken several measures to enhance transparency and prevent misselling in the investment industry. One such recent move is requiring alternative investment funds (AIFs) to offer a “direct plan” option for investors, along with introducing a trail model for distribution commissions. Additionally, SEBI has issued guidelines for excluding an investor from an AIF investment. In the previous month, SEBI approved multiple proposals, including discontinuing the practice of individuals holding permanent directorship at listed company boards and implementing a framework to prevent frauds by stock brokers. These initiatives highlight SEBI’s commitment to promoting fair and transparent practices in the securities market.
