Proklean Technologies Secures $4 Million in Funding for Cleantech Startup

Proklean Technologies secures $4 million funding from Raintree Family Office, a venture capital firm supporting environmentally friendly startups focusing on climate solutions, sustainability, and responsible consumption.

Founded in 2012, Proklean Technologies initially specialized in utilizing microorganisms for wastewater treatment plants. The company was established by a team of cofounders, namely Sivaram Pillai and Bala Chandrashekar, and was later joined by Vishwadeep Kuila. In its early stages, the Chennai-based company secured angel funding amounting to Rs 3.5 crore in 2012. Subsequently, in 2015, Proklean Technologies raised an additional funding round of Rs 5 crore, with investors including Infuse Ventures, shortly before being impacted by devastating floods in the region. As a result, the company had to temporarily suspend operations for approximately six months, as shared by Kuila.

Proklean Technologies has successfully created exclusive technologies leveraging renewable input materials to develop innovative products that effectively address issues like pollution stemming from various industries and the depletion of renewable resources. The company specializes in employing probiotic microorganisms technology, harnessing the power of metabolites to replicate the desired properties of surfactants. This approach eliminates the necessity for chemical-based surfactants, promoting eco-friendly solutions.

Around three years ago, Proklean Technologies expanded its product offerings to cater to the paper industry’s processing needs. Approximately a year and a half ago, the company further diversified its portfolio by introducing consumer products, specifically household cleaning products. These items are available for purchase through online marketplaces and are also offered offline exclusively in Chennai.
