Postman Bolsters Community Engagement with Acquisition of Orbit

Postman has solidified its position in the realm of API management with the acquisition of Orbit, a tool designed to nurture and expand developer communities across various platforms including Discord, Slack, and GitHub. While the financial specifics of the deal remain undisclosed, the strategic alignment between the two entities promises to yield significant benefits for the developer ecosystem.

With a focus on enhancing community engagement, Postman intends to leverage the expertise of the Orbit team to integrate community-centric features into its Public API Network. This initiative aims to empower API distributors to effectively grow their communities, boost API usage, and solicit valuable feedback directly from users within the network.

Led by Noah Schwartz, formerly of Amazon Web Services, the Orbit team brings a wealth of experience in community management and engagement. Their collective efforts will drive the evolution of Postman’s ecosystem, enabling developers to discover relevant APIs tailored to their specific use cases and foster meaningful interactions with their peers.

In line with the acquisition, Orbit has announced the winding down of its existing product and platform over the next 90 days. This process will culminate in the discontinuation of all functionality on July 11, 2024. Despite this transition, existing users will retain access to their data for exploration and export purposes until the specified timeline.

Postman’s latest move comes on the heels of its notable achievements, including its status as the most valued Indian software-as-a-service (SaaS) startup valued at $5.6 billion. The company’s API collaboration platform boasts a user base of over 30 million developers and serves more than 500,000 organizations worldwide.
