Portland fintech startup Rock Paper Coin raises $2.3 million in funding


Rock Paper Coin, a Portland, Oregon-based startup aiming to simplify payments for wedding vendors, has raised $2.3 million in funding. To date, the company has raised $4.8 million in total funding, including a $1.6 million round last year.Elevate Capital of Portland led the funding round, which also included HearstLab, Stormlight Holdings, and others.

The 15-person startup, founded in 2019, survived the wedding slowdown pandemic and is now experiencing “rapid growth,” according to CEO Elizabeth Sheils, she co-founded Rock Paper Coin with her sister-in-law, Nora Sheils. They were both employed by Bridal Bliss, Nora’s successful wedding and event planning company founded in 2002. However, the two were dissatisfied with the lack of digital tools for tracking contracts and payments.

Rock Paper Coin creates tools for wedding planners, vendors, and newlyweds. The plan is to use technology to digitise contracts, invoices, and payments to automate the entire wedding process.Three-way communication is supported between the event planner, the couple, and vendors such as photographers and caterers. The platform also functions as a “wedding binder,” complete with budgeting and other tools for couples in charge of their own event.
