As the highly anticipated ICC Men’s ODI World Cup approaches, set to commence on October 5 and conclude on November 19, hospitality technology platform OYO is gearing up to make a significant impact. With the prestigious tournament taking place across ten cities in India, including Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Delhi, Dharamsala, Chennai, Lucknow, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Pune, OYO has unveiled its mega expansion plans to cater to the surge in accommodation demand.
Recognizing the immense opportunity presented by the World Cup, OYO aims to add 500 new hotels in the host cities within the next three months. This strategic move will ensure that cricket fans traveling from around the world have convenient and easily accessible accommodations near the stadiums, providing them with a comfortable and affordable stay.
In a statement to PTI, OYO emphasized its commitment to meeting the anticipated surge in booking demand during major cricket tournaments. The company spokesperson stated, “OYO will add 500 hotels in host cities in the next three months to meet demand for the Cricket World Cup. We want to ensure that everyone who is traveling from far away to watch their favorite teams has access to a comfortable and affordable accommodation.”
In addition to OYO’s expansion plans, online travel services provider MakeMyTrip has launched a unique program encouraging residents in the host cities to list their properties on its platform. This initiative aims to enhance the availability of homestay options, particularly in cities like Ahmedabad, Dharamshala, and key metropolitan areas, where there has been a significant increase in searches for such accommodations.
As cricket enthusiasts eagerly count down to the ICC Men’s ODI World Cup, the hospitality industry is preparing for a busy and financially rewarding period. With OYO’s extensive hotel network expansion and MakeMyTrip’s focus on enhancing accommodation options, fans and tourists alike can look forward to a seamless and enjoyable experience while cheering for their beloved teams in India’s most prestigious cricketing event.
MakeMyTrip’s Chief Business Officer Alternate Accommodation & Customer Contact Group, Parikshit Choudhury, expressed his optimism regarding the surge in homestay property searches, stating, “We have observed a significant surge in search of homestay properties for October and November in select cities across the country. This is a good sign and indicates that cricket fans are more willing than ever to explore homestays as an accommodation option.”
To facilitate the booking process for cricket fans, MakeMyTrip has developed a new feature that reflects the distance of accommodations from the cricket stadiums in each city, enabling fans to choose the most suitable option.u
