Over 40% of Indian Tech Professionals Struggle with Workplace Health Issues, Reveals Onsurity-KCCI Study

A recent study conducted by Onsurity, India’s premier monthly subscription-based employee healthcare benefits platform, in collaboration with the Knowledge Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), has shed light on the concerning health challenges faced by Indian tech professionals. Titled “Burying the Burnout: Decoding the Health Challenges of India’s Tech Geniuses,” the study underscores the significant impact of work-related issues on the well-being of individuals in the tech industry.

According to the findings, a staggering 43% of Indian tech professionals experience health concerns directly attributed to their work, with long work hours identified as one of the major contributors to poor health. The study reveals that more than 50% of tech professionals in India are working an average of 52.5 hours per week, surpassing the national average of 47.7 hours per week.

Yogesh Agarwal, Founder and CEO of Onsurity, emphasized the importance of prioritizing the well-being of tech professionals, stating, “As we continue to progress as an economy, our dependence on tech talent is only going to increase, making it imperative for companies to provide the right environment for their techies to thrive in.”

Bharat Patel, Secretary General of KCCI, stressed the need for preventive measures and supportive work environments, stating, “Fostering a supportive work environment ensures that employees feel comfortable, stress-free, and satisfied. Prioritising employee welfare isn’t just a preference, it’s a necessity.”

The study further reveals that the health concerns among tech professionals extend beyond physical ailments, with nearly 45% reporting struggles with mental health issues such as stress, anxiety, and depression. Additionally, over 26% of tech professionals are experiencing disrupted sleep patterns, with more than half of them sleeping an average of only 5.5 to 6 hours per day.

Furthermore, a significant 74% of tech professionals admitted to sacrificing family events and celebrations due to work demands, highlighting the pervasive nature of the issue.

Employers are urged to recognize the critical link between employee well-being and organizational success, with a call to action for the implementation of additional measures to safeguard the health and well-being of their workforce, particularly their tech employees.
