OpenAI launches ChatGPT plus

ChatGPT, the AI chatbot that has exploded in popularity in recent months, has gone premium. OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Plus, after confirming a few weeks ago that it would test a paid plan.

Although people will be able to use the chatbot for free, there are some advantages to purchasing a ChatGPT Plus plan. According to OpenAI, subscribers will have general access to the chatbot, even during peak hours. ChatGPT will also provide them with faster response times and priority access to upgrades and new features.

Currently, the paid service is only available in the United States. Over the coming months, OpenAI intends to gradually invite people on the ChatGPT Plus waitlist to sign up for the service. In the near future, the company hopes to make the plan available to people in other countries and regions.

According to OpenAI, the premium plan will help to keep ChatGPT free for everyone. Furthermore, it is looking into cheaper subscriptions, as well as business plans and data packs, in order to increase availability.

“We launched ChatGPT as a research preview so we could learn more about the system’s strengths and weaknesses and gather user feedback to help us improve upon its limitations,” OpenAI wrote in a blog post. “Since then, millions of people have given us feedback, we’ve made several important updates and we’ve seen users find value across a range of professional use-cases, including drafting and editing content, brainstorming ideas, programming help and learning new topics.”

OpenAI has found alternative funding sources. Microsoft announced a multibillion-dollar investment in OpenAI last month, with plans to use the technology more broadly across its products. Meanwhile, Google has reportedly focused heavily on its AI work since the launch of ChatGPT. It is said to be working on its own chatbot as well as at least 20 other AI-powered products to debut this year.
