Ola to start EV cab service pilot in Bengaluru with 1,000 cars

According to The Economic Times, the ride-hailing business Ola intends to launch its own electric vehicle (EV) cab services and will launch the pilot in Bengaluru with around 1,000 cabs.

Along with normal cabs and the vehicle service, the services accessible on the Ola app as a “luxury option.” It will not include cancellations by drivers, a common issue experienced by customers in the Indian ride-hailing sector.

Ola claimed that electrifying its fleet of vehicles will dramatically reduce operating expenses because electric vehicles are less expensive than diesel vehicles, and recent increases in ride fares have been attributed to higher fuel rates.

The company eventually intends to buy more vehicles, increase the number of electric taxis in the city to over 10,000 in a single year, and lease them to drivers who will receive both a fixed income and variable pay.

Ola will face off against regional rivals like Uber and BluSmart, which have just recently started EV operations in Bengaluru, when the new EV ride-hailing service is launched.
