The business plans to create a cutting-edge ‘Battery Innovation Center (BIC)’ in Bangalore. Ola Electric stated in a statement that it will be one of the world’s largest and most modern cell R&D facilities, with more than 165 specialized and cutting-edge lab equipment to address all elements of cell-related research and development.
“Electric mobility is a high-growth, R&D-intensive industry. Ola’s BIC in Bangalore will serve as a global hub for core cell technology research and battery innovation. BIC will host modern labs and high-tech technology for battery creation, assisting India on its path to becoming a global EV center “Bhavish Aggarwal, Ceo and Founder of Ola Electric, said.

BIC will also have in-house production capabilities of anode and cathode materials from mg to kg scale, an integrated center for Hand in Hand Nanoscale research and Molecular Dynamics modeling, and an in-house crystal structure assessment to create novel battery materials. Ola Electric stated that it will hire the “best global talent, involving 500 PhDs and engineers, supported by another 1000 researchers in India and numerous other worldwide centers.”
Ola’s BIC will have physical characteristics labs with high-tech research equipment such as x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy machines (XPS), the latest Gen 3 CT scan equipment for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) for cell & pack imaging, a double planetary mixer, electrode fabrication facility, and an automated assembly line for manufacturing cylindrical and pouch cells, among other things.
