Ola Electric Receives Inaugural PLI Certificate from ICAT Manesar


The International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT), located in Manesar and a division of the National Automotive Board under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, has conferred its inaugural Production Linked Incentive (PLI) – Automotive Certificate upon Ola Electric Technologies Pvt. Ltd. 

This recognition underscores Ola Electric’s dedication to indigenizing advanced automotive technology and contributing to the ‘Make in Bharat’ initiative. “We are honored to receive the PLI certificate, affirming our commitment to advancing electric mobility in India,” stated Dr. S.J. Dhinagar, Head of Engineering & Sr. VP at Ola Electric. Ola Electric’s Battery Electric Vehicle – 2W (Ola S1 Pro Gen2) met the necessary criteria under the Production Linked Incentive Scheme for Automobiles and Auto Components, showcasing its commitment to promoting localized production of advanced automotive technology products. Launched in 2021 with a budgetary outlay of Rs. 25,938 crore, the PLI Scheme aims to boost local production of Advanced Automotive Technology (AAT) products and attract investments in the automotive manufacturing value chain. 

Ola Electric’s achievement aligns with the vision of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India), reflecting progress in the Indian automotive industry toward localized production of advanced automotive technology products. 

The PLI-Auto Certificate was presented by Dr. Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Heavy Industries, to Dr. S.J. Dhinagar, in the presence of Shri Saurabh Dalela, Director-ICAT, and senior officials from the Ministry of Heavy Industries, ICAT, and Ola Electric. 

ICAT, established in 2006, serves as a key entity designated by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways for Testing & Certification of Automobiles and their Safety Critical Components. Additionally, it is authorized by the Ministry of Heavy Industries for PLI-Auto Certification of AAT Products and FAME Certification, offering comprehensive services in automotive certification, homologation, design, validation, R&D, and more. 

ICAT, Manesar, is currently evaluating and assessing PLI-Auto applications from other eligible applicants in the automotive sector, with more companies expected to receive PLI-Auto Certificates soon.
