Ola Declares EV Mishap Isolated, Blames Incident On High Impact
- ByStartupStory | January 26, 2023
Days after an Ola scooter woman rider had received injuries due to an alleged malfunctioning front suspension, the electric vehicle firm on Wednesday issued a statement saying that the incident was a case of “a very high impact road accident”.
“Our preliminary investigation into the recent incident and our analysis has revealed that this was a case of a very high impact road accident. We are in touch with the customer and have extended all necessary support to the family.” the statement added.
The woman riding the Ola S1 Pro is currently in the hospital and recovering.
Samkit Parmar, the injured woman’s husband, had previously tweeted about the incident but afterwards deleted it.
His removed tweet stated that the event happened earlier this week while she was travelling at roughly 35 kmph. According to the husband, the front wheel broke free from the suspension, hurling the victim in the front. His message went on to say that his wife had received significant injuries and was being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU).

“Last week, my wife met with an unfortunate road accident. She is doing much better now. Thanks to everyone who came fwd in support of me. Special thanks to @OlaElectric service & customer support teams for prompt response, constant support and empathy through our tough times,” Parmar posted in a tweet on Wednesday.
It was unclear, however, whether the rider was wearing a helmet.
According to Ola, this was one of the “very isolated incidents of high impact accidents using the front fork arm, which is constructed with an 80% higher factor of safety than average loads encountered on vehicles.”
In order to alleviate any concerns, the Bengaluru-based firm also offered Ola scooter users the opportunity to get the safety levels of their two-wheeler verified through the EV firm’s service network. This comes after an accident last year in which an Ola scooter caught fire, causing severe injuries to the rider. As a result of these instances, the corporation has come under fire.
Ola Cabs’ chief executive Bhavish Aggarwal stated earlier this month that after opening over 100 Ola experience centres in 2022, the company wants to open 100 additional such facilities across India by January 26 in order to reach more clients.
In 2022, the company sold over 1.5 lakh EVs and approximately 25,000 scooters. Ola claims to have a 30% market share in India, despite competition from Hero Electric, Ather, Bajaj, and TVS.
In the country, Ola Electric provides three electric scooters: the Ola S1, the Ola S1 Pro, and the Ola S1 Air. The Ola S1 Pro is the company’s first electric scooter, which will be available in 2021.
